Configuring Meadow to display shift-jis encoded files

I have been using Mule on a solaris machine to create files of Japanese text
encoded in shift-jis over the past few years. I just downloaded and
installed Meadow 1.14 on a Windows 2000 machine, and when I open the
shift-jis files from the solaris machine in Meadow, the characters display
as a sequence of octal character codes (\203, etc.). What can I do to
configure my Meadow installation to recognize these files as having
shift-jis encoding and display their contents as Japanese characters?
Thanks.
